From Ryder Cup to ruin: bearing witness to a country’s self-caricature

A nation of overgrown children, beset by pathetic Daddy issues and divested of courtesy and basic civility. The former United States have become the world’s laughing-stock, yet, like pigeons, Americans befoul every ground upon which they tread and strut as though possessed of innate superiority. I state, unequivocally, that I desire no share in a universe populated by such people, still less to remain marooned behind enemy lines. I would be gone already had I the requisite capital; and, as I have said before, I shall ever despise myself for not foreseeing this collapse a quarter-century ago. Had I known, I would have devoted myself solely to amassing the means of escape, rather than to the puerile follies in which my idiot peers and I were then engrossed.
