If we are destined to live under a dictatorship, then pick one’s poison wisely: for the sake of our survival, President Biden must now go scorched earth on Trump and friends, the MSM, and all who enable and support these treasonous entities

The Biden campaign needs to go scorched earth, emphasising that a vote for Donald Trump is a vote for the genocide of the Ukrainian people.  A vote for Trump is a vote to destroy Social Security and Medicare, and impoverish and kill millions of seniors and disabled people.

Furthermore, it is crucial to remind the public - on a daily basis - what an inept buffoon Trump was during his four rotten years in the White House, most especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. No president in American history - save for James Buchanan - mismanaged a major crisis worse than Trump did with COVID-19, and this nation of shallow idiots with short attention spans needs a harsh reminder.

Finally, it is time for the administration to put the fear of God into our mainstream, corporate ‘news’ outlets. As in forcefully shut them down and charge various individuals in these outlets with sedition and treason. Start with CNN, Fox News, and the New York Times.

The Supreme Court has just ruled presidents are above the law, civil war has been all but officially declared, so no more playing around. If our destiny is to live under a dictatorship, then I will take my chances with Mr. Biden as the dictator and not Trump and his band of theocratic, Putin-loving bozos.

House Republicans tacitly admit they have no found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing in their witch hunt against President Biden and family

Haiyun Jiang/NYT

Bulls**t artists in the extreme. And they can and will continue to get away with it because their base literally demands to be lied to (as proven by the recent debacle with Tucker Carlson and Fox News, and that is merely one example.) They will continue to spend taxpayers dollars on fruitless investigations and hearings, and their propagandists and the rank-and-file will continue to harp on and on about the stupid laptop. And it is all too possible the American people will reward them for it at the ballot box in 2024, given that the smear campaign being waged against President Biden from many different fronts has been largely effective. Facts just do not matter anymore to all too many Americans, and that is why we are in the sorry state that we are in. {NYT 5/11}

Fox News rids itself of a notorious propagandist for neo-fascism, but does anything actually change?

Jason Koerner/Getty Images

As everyone knows by now, Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News. Nothing really to see here, as far as I am concerned: One costs their company nearly a billion dollars, of course they are going to lose their job. But, Fox will merely replace him with another propagandist pushing the same rotten, nation-killing agenda. Furthermore, all those in #Cult45 saying they are ‘done with Fox’ are LYING! Repeat, they are lying. Hell, they probably have Fox News on their televisions at the very moment they are posting that they are ‘done’ with it. Fox News is not in any trouble and will continue to be the top rated cable news channel. Not an endorsement, need I point out, but a reality check. Fox News is a drug, and the junkies will keep getting their fix, with or without F**ker Carlson. And the country will continue to rot, and our liberties will keep on eroding. {Read Umair Haque - ‘How hate figures like Tucker Carlson set fire to American democracy,’ and especially the part about how the Telecommunications Act of 1996 ruined everything. Stop trying to change anybody’s minds: Facts, reason, and logic get us nowhere with the right-wing populist masses of #Murica

All of this - the myriad of (expensive) lawsuits that all went nowhere, the insurrection on 1/06/21, the damage it has done to the office of the presidency itself, the questionable voting laws that have been passed in certain states - could have been avoided had Trump just been a man and conceded defeat like every other defeated incumbent in history had done before him. We know now his own people told him he lost and that it would be futile to fight it. But fought it he did, and many grifters went along while the rank-and-file eagerly embraced any and all efforts to undermine the lawfully elected president. (This has done great damage to Biden’s standing with a worn-out and worn-down general public.) Upwards of 40% of our population *wants* Fascism; that is far more than enough to elect a president given our unique electoral system and the widespread apathy of millions. A plurality is making it plainly clear they want the rest of the population silenced and only *their* constitutional rights matters. After years of being inundated with conspiracy theories and far-right propaganda, they’re lining up behind Trump because they are sincerely afraid, and honestly believe there is a global plot to genocide them out of existence. Few may say it in so many words (some do), but this survival instinct is in overdrive. How does one reason with wounded animals? #Cult45 would still be a bit uppity right now - remember, they’re still angry as hell about the COVID restrictions - but if Trump had just bowed out gracefully, all of this would be a lot more manageable. Sometimes, it feels to me as if America will be lucky to last to the end of the year before civil war begins in earnest …

Above, a Carl Sagan quote that expresses everything I’ve been stressing of late: Nobody is going to say sorry unless they are forced to (and then, they won’t mean it), few are remorseful for the nation-killing evil they helped facilitate, and few are coming to their senses. Trump gave the average American the greatest gift they ever hoped to receive: The license to openly hate and abuse their fellow Americans. No means of keeping these United States together are possible anymore, the irreconcilable differences among us are too great. Nor is there any hope of a peaceful divorce, for millions are hellbent on violence and silencing the opposition. Civil war is coming; if we’re being honest, it has already been in its ‘cold’ phase for years. Now it’s getting hot: The end result and what comes after, I haven’t a clue, except that life will never be the same as we knew in the late 20th century …

It is true that President Biden does not have as big of a fan club as his predecessor maintains. We didn’t vote for the man to make him the center of a cult of personality, or to worship him as some national father figure. Only cultists would do that. Nor does anyone have real cause to demonize the president to the absurd extent being done. #Cult45 is pathetic. They’ve been thoroughly debunked and delegitimized over and over, but - again - they must keep doubling down, for surrender or admitting error is a fate worse than death to me. As with their deity, Donald Trump. Logic and all else be damned, we’re really f**king screwed.

Good Carlson, Bad Carlson: Former Fox News anchor gives ‘damning assessment’ of how the network is brainwashing people

Rob Kim/Getty Images

Misinformation and blatant disinformation are the greatest threats to our health, our liberty, our national security, and to America’s continued existence. When somebody who was on the inside is telling them that they are being conned, then I would suggest to all Fox News fans to, at the very least, question their loyalty. As Mark Twain is reputed to have said, ‘it's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.’ Hence, why grifters like the people behind Fox News, and Donald Trump, and so many others in this nationalist populist realm do what they do. Only too easy, and profitable, to fool a bunch of marks and appeal to their various resentments. Stop being a mark. -

Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson offered a damning assessment of the network as she explained just how bad its spread of conspiracy theories and misinformation has become.

During an appearance on the CNN segment, "Democracy in Peril," Carlson discussed many aspects of Fox News' critical role in the spread of misinformation and falsehoods. Since former President Donald Trump took office, conspiracy theories have been on the rise and Fox News has become a driving force for it.

Conservative primetime news anchor Tucker Carlson has been at the center of misinformation and the power of his opinion has begun to influence Republican members of Congress.

"This is the result of fake news," Carlson said. "You know, we're seeing not only the fallout from fake news during the Trump era, but what happened with the insurrection on January 6th. Now it's moving into other areas. Not just news, now it's hitting science with vaccines, and now it's into Cold War politics."

Carlson also touched on another significant topic as she shed light on the actions of her former Fox News colleagues, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. While they reportedly sent pleas to the White House for the violence to stop on Jan. 6, they still put up a united front on-air and circulated a completely different narrative about the series of events that unfolded.

"I think the bigger story coming out of that is how disingenuous it was to be sending those texts of warning while then going on the air to the American people and doing a complete injustice and disservice by saying something completely opposite," Carlson said, "and ginning up this whole reaction that it was just fine and patriotic for people to be there on January 6th."

She went on to express concern about the journalistic state of her former network since the rise of Trump. Carlson also noted how conspiracy theories have become a fallacious replacement for opinion. (Read more)

Setting the record straight: ‘Russiagate’ was not a hoax, and Trump is not a victim

Brendan Smialowski /AFP /Getty Images

David Frum, the former White House speechwriter during the Bush 43 administration, is sounding the alarm about the media’s latest tactic in their campaign to revive the political career of Donald Trump: Whitewashing Russia’s (successful) efforts to gaslight the American public and elect Trump in 2016. Don’t fall for any of this bulls**t

If Donald Trump had been supported only by people who affirmatively liked him, his attack on American democracy would never have gotten as far as it did.

Instead, at almost every turn, Trump was helped by people who had little liking for him as a human being or politician, but assessed that he could be useful for purposes of their own. The latest example: the suddenly red-hot media campaign to endorse Trump’s fantasy that he was the victim of a “Russia hoax.”

The usual suspects in the pro-Trump media ecosystem will of course endorse and repeat everything Trump says, no matter how outlandish. But it’s not pro-Trumpers who are leading the latest round of Trump-Russia denialism. This newest round of excuse-making is being sounded from more respectable quarters, in many cases by people distinguished as Trump critics. With Trump out of office—at least for the time being—they now feel free to subordinate their past concerns about him to other private quarrels with the FBI or mainstream media institutions. On high-subscription Substacks, on popular podcasts, even from within prestige media institutions, people with scant illusions about Trump the man and president are nonetheless volunteering to help him execute one of his Big Lies. The remaining few intelligent people are heading for the exit, and Fox News becomes ever more of a national populist cesspool

Janos Kummer/Getty Images

Jonah Goldberg and Stephen F. Hayes announce they are leaving Fox News. One thing that is not acknowledged here is that their now-former network is giving its rabid audience exactly what they want. Time to start holding the rank-and-file accountable. -

Fox News still does real reporting, and there are still responsible conservatives providing valuable opinion and analysis. But the voices of the responsible are being drowned out by the irresponsible.

A case in point: Patriot Purge, a three-part series hosted by Tucker Carlson.

The special—which ran on Fox’s subscription streaming service earlier this month and was promoted on Fox News—is presented in the style of an exposé, a hard-hitting piece of investigative journalism. In reality, it is a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering, riddled with factual inaccuracies, half-truths, deceptive imagery, and damning omissions. And its message is clear: The U.S. government is targeting patriotic Americans in the same manner —and with the same tools—that it used to target al Qaeda.

“The domestic war on terror is here. It’s coming after half of the country,” says one protagonist. “The left is hunting the right, sticking them in Guantanamo Bay for American citizens—leaving them there to rot,” says another, over video of an individual in an orange jumpsuit being waterboarded.

This is not happening. And we think it’s dangerous to pretend it is. If a person with such a platform shares such misinformation loud enough and long enough, there are Americans who will believe—and act upon—it.

This isn’t theoretical. This is what actually happened on January 6, 2021.

Over the past five years, some of Fox’s top opinion hosts amplified the false claims and bizarre narratives of Donald Trump or offered up their own in his service. In this sense, the release of Patriot Purge wasn’t an isolated incident, it was merely the most egregious example of a longstanding trend. Patriot Purge creates an alternative history of January 6, contradicted not just by common sense, not just by the testimony and on-the-record statements of many participants, but by the reporting of the news division of Fox News itself.

Indeed, the news side of Fox routinely does what it is supposed to do: It reports the truth. COVID-19 is deadly, vaccines work, Joe Biden won Arizona, the election was not stolen, January 6 was not a Deep State-orchestrated “false flag” operation but was an assault on the Capitol as part of a broader attempt to steal an election: The people who put the “news” in Fox News have reported all of these things.

This is not the place to expound at any length on the many problems and challenges facing the country. But we sincerely believe that all people of good will and good judgment—regardless of their ideological or partisan commitments—can agree that a cavalier and even contemptuous attitude toward facts, truth-seeking, and truth-telling, lies at the heart of so much that plagues our country.
