PACT OF FORGETTING: WHY THE #MAGA BASE, AND THE PEOPLE AND INSTITUTIONS OF THE FORMER UNITED STATES IN GENERAL, WILL NEVER ALLOW TRUMP AND ASSOCIATES TO FACE JUSTICE FOR (IN ALL LIKELIHOOD) VISITING EPSTEIN’S PAEDOPHILE ISLAND

Getty Images

Whilst some of them are grumbling, waiting for the #MAGA faithful to break permanently with their cult leader is a fool’s errand. I submit unequivocally: even if there were incontrovertible, undoctored video evidence of Trump sexually assaulting minors, 90% or more of his constituency would maintain their allegiance, provided he continues to sanction their licence to hate fellow Americans.

If disclosures of Russian electoral manipulation on his behalf in 2016 failed to unseat him, if his lamentable handling of this century’s gravest public health crisis proved insufficient, if his mendacious claims of electoral fraud and the January 6 insurrection they incited could not bring him down—then this matter certainly will not. ‘Teflon Don’ has never been a truer moniker.

Close enough to half of the populace in the former United States—the ruling plurality holding roughly 85% to 90% of the guns, and most of the political power—has declared this man infallible, and they will cling to that belief until the bitter end (and beyond, if any of us remain by then). Yes, humans really are this depraved. The past decade has proven we must grow up and confront this reality. The sooner we do, the sooner we might begin fixing this infernal mess. Or maybe not.

Expecting Congress to act on this in earnest—barring a few rogue figures—is as naïve as believing the American public will demand accountability. Given that countless such miscreants, alongside elites across commerce, religion, entertainment, sports, and media, likely frequented Little Saint James, exposing Trump would force them to expose themselves—and the fallout could theoretically collapse the entire system, obliterating everything Americans thought they knew.

Yet even if the full client list were made public, I doubt the American public could bear the sheer scale of it—the revelation that so many idolised figures were complicit in these horrors. Most would retreat into denial, attack the evidence, then ultimately demand their own Pact of Forgetting, much like Spain’s after Franco’s death and the collapse of Fascist rule in the mid-1970s.

Yes, it is that grave. Many are now too jaded to feel shock, having lost all faith in humanity (your correspondent leans decidedly this way, in case it wasn't obvious). The world's horrors come so thick and fast they've become a blur.

Democratic societies, when faced with truths too monstrous to bear, typically choose collective amnesia over painful moral reckoning. Here, it would simply occur on an unprecedented scale. Justice shall not be served—abandon all hope.  —Arthur Newhook, 17 July 2025.

No heroes remain: decoding the GOP’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ – chaos, fear, and fiscal recklessness

Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images

NPR: House Republicans narrowly pass Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’

In the short-term, the House-passed bill—now facing a contentious Senate battle, and not at all certain of final passage—is less catastrophic than many fear, though hardly any sort of triumph for its authors. Yes, partisan propagandists will weaponise scare tactics (left and right alike). Recognising that no political faction holds moral purity is the first step to finding our collective bearings.

Yet make no mistake: this bill is a fiscal and ethical gamble. Offloading Medicaid responsibilities to states will bring forth long-term instability and insolvency—especially with vague definitions of ‘able-bodied adults’ subject to work requirements, ripe for abuse. Meanwhile, it piles billions (likely trillions) onto an unpayable national debt.

The message to rank-and-file Americans from the Musk-Trump regime, the GOP, and their enablers is clear: “Expect nothing from your government or your society—and grovel with gratitude for the privilege.” That is unacceptable. —Arthur Newhook, 23 May 2025.

America's final week of democracy: as GOP and Musk prepare fascist takeover, a lament for missed chances to prevent this dark fate

Well, this is it then—the final week of what is left of the United States. About to trade what passes for democracy these days for some proper fascist nonsense. Last gasp of the Democrats holding any sway in Washington, I expect. Won’t see them back in power in my lifetime.

Prepare thyselves for grave overreach by the incoming regime and its Republican confederates in Congress and state legislatures; the GOP shall run absolutely bloody riot in the coming months. Steel thy hearts for widespread calamity: civil unrest, food shortages, economic collapse; on top of ever-worsening and more frequent natural disasters. Anticipate that the unelected dictator, Elon Musk, along with his figurehead president—believed by the witless masses of this wilfully ignorant land to wield true authority—to deepen every crisis, without fail; as Trump did in the chaos of his first disastrous reign, and as this unholy pair hath done again and again, leading up to their accursed coronation.

The final week, indeed. If only justice had held firm, and this felon, Trump, had been cast into chains. If only regulators had interceded to thwart Elon Musk from spending $44 billion on Twitter. If only a Vice-President had prioritised the welfare of the nation above self-serving ambition, had not betrayed the President, and had refrained from embarking on a farcical and hopeless campaign in a land that reviles those who share her visage and believe her to be a Marxist. If only the Pollyannas among us had not ensnared us with false hope and led us astray. If only President Biden were not so long in the tooth and still possessed the vigour to fight.

We had a good run, I suppose. - Arthur Newhook, 12 January 2025.

Senate GOP blocks bill to protect access to contraception, claiming it is 'unnecessary'

Photo: Elon Musk

Though not mentioned in the AP article, extreme natalism is increasingly becoming mainstream in Republican/#Cult45 circles, and any Republican who saith they voted against this bill because it is ‘unnecessary’ is gaslighting the public. These extremists, such as the pictured Elon Musk, along with their natural inclination to control women and their bodies, are trying to convince the general public that there are not enough babes to sustain humanity. There are eight billion souls in the world, more than twice the population at the time of mine birth in 1978, and roughly half of them are starving and living in extreme poverty. Frankly, bringing a life into this world today is an act of sadism, but I digress.

Junior GOP presidential hopefuls make noise about slashing Social Security and Medicare

AI generated image

As I have grown older and further away from the absurd right-wing populism and conspiracism of my younger years, I see more clearly that one need not be a Communist or a Marxist - or even think of oneself as any variant of a ‘socialist,’ which I never have and still do not - to understand that rich and civilized nations should have basic safety nets in place to prevent its citizens from going into poverty. European nations typically take far better care of their seniors and vulnerable, and their living standards (by and large) only continue to rise or stay at a high level, while America’s living standards have been plummeting in recent decades. In this country, we have only the most basic of social safety nets for citizens, and even that is far too much for many Republicans and their enablers. Earlier this year, during the contentious debt ceiling negotiations, more than a few House Republicans and especially those in the ‘freedom caucus’ were growing quite bold in their proposals to suffocate and drain Social Security and Medicare. Three of Donald Trump’s 2024 GOP rivals - namely, Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, and Nikki Haley - are again testing the waters in hopes of bringing public opinion around to incrementally ending these vital programs

Younger Americans are already having an extremely harder time, all across the board, in getting ahead in life than previous generations, and they are going to have nothing to fall back upon when they reach their senior years. And I hate to say it, but I sense that many in the ‘Boomer’ generation (so long as they are still getting theirs), along with some of the more callous among my generation (Gen X) and even among the ‘millennial’ generation (who will suffer themselves) are quite okay with all that. That callousness is what the likes of Pence and DeSantis are counting on. And Donald Trump as well, even if he at least has enough sense to know it is still bad for business to hint at anything that would threaten senior citizens and the vulnerable. {WP 7/22: Trump's GOP rivals open door to cutting Social Security for younger people}

DHS issues memo to government and law enforcement agencies warning that violent threats against gays, lesbians, and transsexuals are on the rise

AI image generated via Hotpot API

America has never really been the ‘live and let live’ country most of us would like to believe that we are. Perhaps some of us are seeing this truism more clearly now, in this post-COVID, post-Trump, and post-truth hellscape we are navigating; where large portions of our fellow Americans are violently rejecting liberal democracy, and liberal democratic values. A renewed moral panic has been whipped up against the LBGTQ community, and I would have to advise that many of us who are not in that community will nonetheless be targeted (or already have been) by extremist homophobes. Think of the witchcraft hysteria that my Puritan ancestors shamefully engaged in during the 17th century (a great-grandmother of mine was actually hung in early Hartford, CT, after accused of being a ‘witch’ because the community did not approve of her remarrying at age 72; her husband was also hung right alongside of her.) #Cult45 is eager to punish anybody not standing with them, and I have a feeling a lot of us are about to be deemed ‘witches’ of sorts (or ‘groomers,’ or any number of aspersions) in our new 1692. {ABC News 5/15}

House Republicans tacitly admit they have no found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing in their witch hunt against President Biden and family

Haiyun Jiang/NYT

Bulls**t artists in the extreme. And they can and will continue to get away with it because their base literally demands to be lied to (as proven by the recent debacle with Tucker Carlson and Fox News, and that is merely one example.) They will continue to spend taxpayers dollars on fruitless investigations and hearings, and their propagandists and the rank-and-file will continue to harp on and on about the stupid laptop. And it is all too possible the American people will reward them for it at the ballot box in 2024, given that the smear campaign being waged against President Biden from many different fronts has been largely effective. Facts just do not matter anymore to all too many Americans, and that is why we are in the sorry state that we are in. {NYT 5/11}

Spineless Speaker Kevin McCarthy still will not call on proven fraud George Santos to resign from the House, even after Santos is indicted on federal charges

Andrew Harnik/AP

Republicans appear poised to stop at nothing in their war with President Biden over the debt ceiling limit. Cutting aid to veterans, and Social Security and Medicare recipients, trumps (pun intended) any ethical considerations. FTA: ‘While an association with Mr. Santos may be a political drag on Republicans, the impact of his resignation would pose a challenge for leadership. With a slim majority in the House and a fight over the debt ceiling looming, Mr. McCarthy cannot afford to lose Mr. Santos’s vote. Fox News rids itself of a notorious propagandist for neo-fascism, but does anything actually change?

Jason Koerner/Getty Images

As everyone knows by now, Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News. Nothing really to see here, as far as I am concerned: One costs their company nearly a billion dollars, of course they are going to lose their job. But, Fox will merely replace him with another propagandist pushing the same rotten, nation-killing agenda. Furthermore, all those in #Cult45 saying they are ‘done with Fox’ are LYING! Repeat, they are lying. Hell, they probably have Fox News on their televisions at the very moment they are posting that they are ‘done’ with it. Fox News is not in any trouble and will continue to be the top rated cable news channel. Not an endorsement, need I point out, but a reality check. Fox News is a drug, and the junkies will keep getting their fix, with or without F**ker Carlson. And the country will continue to rot, and our liberties will keep on eroding. {Read Umair Haque - ‘How hate figures like Tucker Carlson set fire to American democracy,’ and especially the part about how the Telecommunications Act of 1996 ruined everything. Why is America still funding the Taliban?

World Atlas

OUTRAGE: The US government’s Afghanistan watchdog told lawmakers Wednesday that he cannot say with certainty that US aid to the country is “not currently funding the Taliban.” - Simple solution here: Cut off all aid to Afghanistan, once and for all. Americans and many others gave their blood for those people over a twenty-year period, and this is the thanks they get in the end? Use those funds to help fund Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. On that note, isn’t it amazing that Ukrainians are fighting like Hell and greatly appreciate every bit of aid they receive; yet, Americans are intent on seeing Ukrainians as to blame for their plight, and Putin as a strong, steady leader who is only defending his country. Furthermore, the threat of Islamic terrorism has completely faded from the minds of Americans, and the Taliban now appears to be a role model for these populists and Christian nationalists. In 2021, led on by our sleazy media and seditious lawmakers, the American people shamefully threw a giant hissy-fit over the ‘botched’ withdrawal from Afghanistan; they pointed the finger of blame at President Biden and the U.S. Armed Forces, but not the Taliban. No more money spent, no more blood given for Afghanistan, for they had their opportunity for liberty and decided they didn’t want it. Much the same as is happening now here in #Murica. {CNN 4/19}

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and the hard truth about mankind

Laura Boushnak/NYT

Explosion kills over fifty Ukrainian prisoners of war at a Russian-operated detention camp in Donetsk; Russia says Ukraine used ‘precision weapons supplied by the United States’ - Most people are not good people: The hard lesson we all need to be learning, but too many of us simply refuse to acknowledge. Over and over in this post-truth world, I keep futilely asking myself: ‘How can anyone believe such obvious crap?’ It applies to everything having to do with Donald Trump’s political career: The most obvious conman of all-time that any kindergartner should be able to see through. People of reason were baffled by his ascendancy, but Trump proved to be crazy like a fox. Trump understood that millions would support and vigorously defend him to absurd degrees if he told those people what they wanted to hear, and presented himself as their protector and weapon against the rest of a society they hate. Donald Trump gives the defiant license to be their true, awful selves. For this, he has their undying loyalty, and now they are on the cusp of cementing #Murica as a Christofascist state. Vladimir Putin and Russia know that people will willingly believe an obvious lie, demand others accept said lie as fact, and even kill and die for it if said lie appeals to an individual’s innate biases and desires. Confirmation bias. If a Trump or a Putin tell their followers the sky is yellow, their followers are going to say the sky is yellow and anyone who disagrees is a lunatic and a traitor. Ask oneself, why were all the characters in the fairy tale afraid to tell the Emperor he has no clothes? Why do the words of Voltaire - ‘Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities’ - resonate through the ages, and why are people so eager to adopt absurdities as their guiding principles to begin with? ‘Because, f**k you, that’s why.’ Yeah, in a nutshell, that really is it: Ignorance, resentment, tribalism, and an inherent lust for violence and domination. The majority of human beings in most any given time and place are not overly enlightened creatures - to varying degrees of degradation, of course; #Murica now is boiling on that scale. Grievance is the most powerful drug on earth, and reality and reason matter not to the aggrieved. Now, if only those who are of reason, empathy, and intelligence would stop their own pretending, and finally put a rest to this obnoxious lie we enforce upon ourselves: The lie that says people are basically good by nature. NO, just the opposite: The entire purpose of civilization is to contain our base instincts, else we wipe ourselves out and all ceases to be. (New York Times 7/30)

‘The mouth of a bear.’ Ukrainian refugees sent to Russia - Detailing how desperate Ukrainians from devastated eastern regions are lured, or otherwise compelled, into Russia. Often forced to be propaganda tools, although just as often left abandoned thousands of miles from home with no money or documents. Some ordinary Russians, however, are displaying kindness and bravery in helping the refugees find their way out of the belly of the beast. (AP 7/20)

The Kremlin is bribing school teachers to move to occupied parts of Ukraine, in order that students get a ‘corrected’ (propagandized) education - Our Republicans, particularly in the Southern U.S., are learning well from their Russian masters: The far-right, heretical Christofascist crusade to control what people see, learn, think, and feel becomes more violent and aggressive with each day. The attack on education and the anti-intellectual undertones are all by design. Those who are adhering to this radical ideology, wherever in the world they are, need to do some real soul searching. It is not God who they are serving with their zealotry, and His very first commandment is mere lip service to them, at very best. (Washington Post 7/18)

A second wave of Russians flee Putin’s regime - No exact numbers available, but it is well into the hundreds of thousands and could exceed a million in short order. Smart Russians are seeing the writing on the wall: Russia is doomed, and there is no future there except for more tyranny, misery, and death. The same is going to occur in #Murica once the Fascists have consolidated their power completely, the exodus will be epic (and may already be starting, at least internally, as ‘red states’ become more authoritarian and intrusive into the private lives of citizens.) Europe has been overrun in recent years by refugees from the Middle East, and now Ukraine and Russia, and it will not be able to accommodate millions of North Americans, to say nothing of millions escaping from Africa, India, etc. in large part due to climate change. Where is everybody going to live on this planet if most of it is uninhabitable? The answer, of course, is that most will no longer be living, period. (CNBC 7/14)

Russian state media gave an inordinate amount of attention to the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protests in Ottawa earlier this year, and Fox News followed suit - Excerpt: ‘(R)ecently, Russia has focused less on tipping the scale towards specific electoral outcomes. Rather, according to an FBI official who spoke out earlier this year, the country has focused on sowing chaos and distrust abroad. “The primary objective is not to create a particular version of the truth but rather cloud the truth and erode our ability to find it, creating a sentiment that no narrative or news source can be trusted at all,” David Porter, an assistant section chief with the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, told a U.S. election security conference in March. “To put it simply, in this space, Russia wants to watch us tear ourselves apart.”’ (Global News 7/13)

The Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation releases a list of American public figures who are propagating Vladimir Putin’s lies and distortions - The list includes Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), and the ‘journalist’ Glenn Greenwald of the New York Times. The next step is placing international sanctions on these people, and expanding the list to include all Americans - lawmakers, media figures, and rank-and-file, private citizens alike; the entire fifth column - who can reasonably be proven to be spreading disinformation and propaganda straight out of Putin’s troll factories. It is war; enemies of humanity will either be stopped, or humanity will be slaughtered in numbers that may make most past mass atrocities pale in comparison. (Newsweek 7/26)

Jeffrey Sonnenfeld/Steven Tian: Actually, Russia’s economy is imploding - It’d be nice if Western economists wouldn’t go by the Russian government’s fabricated numbers when analyzing the state of Russia’s economy since heavy sanctions were put in place. The sanctions are working; albeit, it is clear that Putin is willing to do tremendous, even fatal, harm to his own nation and people to satiate his grievances. Advice to any Russian who may already be suffering a degree or two of economic deprivation: Get the hell out of that s**thole now, before you are all starving and your leader has to regularly threaten nations with nuclear annihilation unless said countries provide food and other aid - see the last thirty years or so of North Korea. Russia’s only real advantage over us is psychological warfare, and on that count they are winning and it is a devastating advantage to have. Vladimir Putin has committed great psychological harm upon the collective psyche of America with his propaganda war. As with the old Soviet Union, the facade will collapse in time. America and Russia are dying nations, and the Fascists of both intuitively know they are heading to the ashbins of history, hence their desperation to reverse course at all costs. (Foreign Policy 7/22)

Senators strike a bipartisan deal on legislation to overhaul the Electoral Count Act in order to prevent future coup attempts - For once, the clowns in this chamber are doing what all Americans should be demanding of them. But does it go far enough? (NBC News 7/20)

New findings detail Trump plan to use Census for partisan gain; A proposal to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census, struck down by the Supreme Court, would have intended to create an undercount favoring the GOP - I’m not certain non-citizens should be counted toward apportioning representatives, either, but am certain that the cabal’s objections were solely to benefit themselves at the expense of everybody else. It has never been this apparent: The barely-unspoken fear and understanding among much of white America, and nearly all who identify as Republicans, is that we are being replaced and we must act now to repress those replacing us. I have no interest in seeing my race perish, nor am I very fearful that Whites are going to go extinct in my lifetime or in the lifetimes of anyone alive now. Let us remember, that at no point in history have Caucasians ever been a majority of people on this planet. Nor are we entitled to anything; all of that is in the hands of God, and anyone attempting to speak for God is committing heresy. The Republican Party is not entitled to eternal power, and neither is the Democratic Party. The two-party deathgrip on America is choking the life out of it. (New York Times 7/20)

Harvard University study: J6 insurrectionists were motivated solely by obedience to Trump - If he tells them the election was rigged, it was rigged. If he tells them that Putin is our friend, then they love Putin. No critical thinking going on there. (NBC News 7/20)

Stop trying to change anybody’s minds: Facts, reason, and logic get us nowhere with the right-wing populist masses of #Murica

All of this - the myriad of (expensive) lawsuits that all went nowhere, the insurrection on 1/06/21, the damage it has done to the office of the presidency itself, the questionable voting laws that have been passed in certain states - could have been avoided had Trump just been a man and conceded defeat like every other defeated incumbent in history had done before him. We know now his own people told him he lost and that it would be futile to fight it. But fought it he did, and many grifters went along while the rank-and-file eagerly embraced any and all efforts to undermine the lawfully elected president. (This has done great damage to Biden’s standing with a worn-out and worn-down general public.) Upwards of 40% of our population *wants* Fascism; that is far more than enough to elect a president given our unique electoral system and the widespread apathy of millions. A plurality is making it plainly clear they want the rest of the population silenced and only *their* constitutional rights matters. After years of being inundated with conspiracy theories and far-right propaganda, they’re lining up behind Trump because they are sincerely afraid, and honestly believe there is a global plot to genocide them out of existence. Few may say it in so many words (some do), but this survival instinct is in overdrive. How does one reason with wounded animals? #Cult45 would still be a bit uppity right now - remember, they’re still angry as hell about the COVID restrictions - but if Trump had just bowed out gracefully, all of this would be a lot more manageable. Sometimes, it feels to me as if America will be lucky to last to the end of the year before civil war begins in earnest …

Above, a Carl Sagan quote that expresses everything I’ve been stressing of late: Nobody is going to say sorry unless they are forced to (and then, they won’t mean it), few are remorseful for the nation-killing evil they helped facilitate, and few are coming to their senses. Trump gave the average American the greatest gift they ever hoped to receive: The license to openly hate and abuse their fellow Americans. No means of keeping these United States together are possible anymore, the irreconcilable differences among us are too great. Nor is there any hope of a peaceful divorce, for millions are hellbent on violence and silencing the opposition. Civil war is coming; if we’re being honest, it has already been in its ‘cold’ phase for years. Now it’s getting hot: The end result and what comes after, I haven’t a clue, except that life will never be the same as we knew in the late 20th century …

It is true that President Biden does not have as big of a fan club as his predecessor maintains. We didn’t vote for the man to make him the center of a cult of personality, or to worship him as some national father figure. Only cultists would do that. Nor does anyone have real cause to demonize the president to the absurd extent being done. #Cult45 is pathetic. They’ve been thoroughly debunked and delegitimized over and over, but - again - they must keep doubling down, for surrender or admitting error is a fate worse than death to me. As with their deity, Donald Trump. Logic and all else be damned, we’re really f**king screwed.

From NPR, March 2, 2021: Antifa didn’t storm the Capitol. Just ask the rioters - #Cult45 needs to make up their minds: Was January 6 an ‘inside job’ to smear Trump and the GOP, or was it just some ‘patriots’ blowing off steam and not that big of a deal?

The decaying United States of America: A lost cause doomed for history’s ash heap? If this past week has been any indication, the answer is ‘yes,’ we are doomed

Edvard Munch

January 6 committee presents new video footage of the U.S. Capitol riot, shares testimony from numerous Trump allies - including Ivanka - that his election fraud claims were bogus - The footage is shocking and ugly. The evidence is damning. Yet, I don’t see anything changing politically, or any of the important players going to prison. In fact, the January 6 attack was just the beginning of much violence to come. We have mass shootings on an almost daily basis in #Murica, and it hardly phases anybody now. Certainly not enough to enact reasonable gun regulation on the federal level. The people of this country really don’t want to be bothered with this, just as they’ve proven they don’t want to be bothered with the war in Ukraine, or with further COVID-19 restrictions. Some are angry about gas prices and inflation, and they blame the old man in the White House; but most are just apathetic and only want to play video games, or watch ‘reality TV,’ or gorge on cheeseburgers, anything but giving a damn. Even without majority support - due to anemic voter turnout - the GOP are going to win large majorities in both houses of Congress, and the march toward total Fascism will move forward. In fact, many who are currently on-the-fence politically or apolitical will come to welcome our Fascist overlords. In no small part because #Cult45 and GOP lawmakers are growing increasingly willing to enforce their positions upon others, and others will be threatened into compliance. #Cult45 are eager for violence. If anything, this new footage is only going to inspire more violence, and fewer and fewer Americans will care unless they’re the victim. Or even ‘if’ (and when) they are the victim. This is a broken country full of broken people, and it does not have the will or the means to defeat this Fascist plague. We’re going full Nazi, and most seem to sense it and are resigned to it. For those of us who will never accept Fascism, the remnant - only God knows what will happen to us. I know what my gut tells me, and better dead than a slave. I’ve been suffering panic attacks for years, fearing a moment exactly as we saw on January 6, 2021. And worse; worse is coming, the current situation is awful enough. I’ve prayed that these premonitions of unbridled hate and warfare in the streets of America were all just my paranoia, but it’s all proceeding in real-time just as I feared. Until I breathe my last, however, I carry on expressing my indignation at what has become of this country and what its people have become. And longing for a better life in a world far from our own. (NBC News 6/09)

I’ve been telling you folks for several years now that the nationalist populist right in America - #Cult45 - are going to stop at nothing in their crusade to destroy liberal democracy and restore Fascism, theocracy, misogyny, and racism. Great, I am glad the hearings are happening, and much respect to Bennie Thompson, Liz Cheney, and the J6 Committee for their work. Know this, however: No matter what is revealed, nobody’s minds are going to be changed. Not a single pro-Trump Republican voter in America is going to be moved by this, bank on that. None of the J6 ring leaders will ever go to prison. Just as with the most recent school massacre in Texas, and the discussion over whether to show the public the images of the slain children: They could do that, and not a single Second Amendment absolutist is going to change his or her mind. Millions of Americans will scorch the earth if widespread gun confiscation were to occur. The anti-abortion lobby is never going to be swayed, the COVID deniers will never be swayed by facts, reason, or logic. Christ Himself could return in the flesh and chastise evangelical Christians for their hypocrisy and the cruelties being done in His name, and none of these Christofascists are going to give an inch. Yes, they would reject Him. The extreme right has grown very large and very powerful, and it will take victory in a long, bloody civil war to ever stop them - do NOT underestimate how determined millions of our fellow Americans are to silence other Americans! And that very much goes for the extreme contingent on the hard-left, but they are not nearly as numerous (or as well-armed) as the extreme right. Fewer and fewer of us are occupying the center, which is really the most dangerous spot an American can occupy when surrounded by blood-thirsty vampires on the left and right. This isn’t the old days, such as in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal, when everybody finally comes to their senses and realizes they were supporting a crook. The battle lines have been drawn, hearts have been hardened, humanity has been lost, we are heading for civil war, and the ultimate dissolution of the republic. Not going to sugarcoat it, having faith in people to do the right thing these days is futile.

Americans spending half or more of their time whining about how bad President Biden they believe to be, while simultaneously baffled and angered - just like the idiots and lemmings they are - because not everybody loves the corrupt, orange buffoon who - in four short years - did more damage to the office of the presidency than every one of his predecessors combined in over 200 years of American history. There isn’t any use in even talking to any of them or trying to reason; people only see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. Trump is their opiate, one of their few comforts in this miserable world, and the one giving them permission to be their true, ugly selves. And to take their idol away from them is something they are not ever going to forgive or forget, and they are very likely to turn more to violence and outright Fascism at ever-faster rates. We are in a dangerous time, and if I have a criticism of President Biden, it is that he is not laying down the law strongly enough, and usually doesn’t defend himself as he really needs to (and is capable of, but I think maybe his handlers are a bit too wedded to this kindly old-man image they wish to project.) This is a man who spent 36 years in the United States Senate, holding some very powerful chairmanships in that time. Eight years as VP. The man is going to be 80 this November, and is undertaking one of the hardest jobs in the world, and 95% of his critics can barely get out of bed each day (not that I’m one to talk about getting out of bed, but I’m not the one talking s**t about the president.) If Biden goes all-out authoritarian, it will be because #Murica has so richly earned it. Seriously, I’m not the smartest man alive, but I knew an obvious con-man when I saw one in the 2016 campaign. And I’ve lived long enough to recognize a mass hissy-fit when I see one. Lord knows there have been plenty in recent years in this ridiculous and stupid nation. You are pathetic, #Cult45. And that also goes to all the grifters in the media - laughing all the way to the bank while America is torn apart, no real care for the preservation of our constitutional republic - and to the hard-left whackos who are the flip side of the same tyrannical coin as #Cult45. To the whole lot of you: Not a single word you say, and nor any of your actions will ever be taken seriously by me, or millions of others around the world, ever again. Bloody fools, you are going to be the death of us all. You are not patriots, but agents of death and misery. Here’s hoping for the president to begin kicking seditious ass, and to explain to the whiners that they are not helping matters with their belligerence and petulance.

Our darkest days grow colder: Shooting at elementary school in Texas leaves 18 small children dead, Trump wanted to hang his own VP for not cooperating with the J6 insurrection, and the dangerous despot in Hungary seizes more power for himself

Jacob Langston/NYT

Testimony before the House January 6 committee reveals that Trump allegedly stated that Mike Pence needed to hang - Nothing is shocking anymore with Donald Trump, and this revelation is no exception. In normal times this one anecdote alone would have been the scandal of the decade, and there would be widespread outrage. America has undergone a ‘shock treatment’ of sorts for the past twenty-one years, and desensitization has set in for many. And others are embracing the evil lurking inside them, as we will see in the next paragraph. Welcome to Hell. (New York Times 5/25)

Another f**king school shooting, another bloody day in #Murica - Mass shootings are now an almost-daily occurrence in this sick country. No hyperbole, people everywhere are cracking. Eighteen kids, and one adult dead; the shooter, probably another one of these teenage incel types, killed by police. Americans are once again horrified, and once again no action will be taken. Guns are only part of the problem, and guns are an effective deterrent when used responsibly and lawfully by qualified individuals - no, many of these kids are being doped up on Ritalin, overstimulated on video games and electronics, most are not reading, they are largely not allowed to play outside. They are no longer taught manners, seeing as so many of the grown-ups around them are rude and stupid individuals, and genuine role models are few and far between. Even most of those in #Murica who present themselves as upright and full of wisdom turn out to be scam artists and charlatans; wolves in sheep’s clothing. I’ve long had a vague suspicion that the new Babylon spoken of in prophecy is the United States of America. At this moment, I am not suspecting anything; this may as well be Babylon, and it deserves to die. All of that good, patriotic stuff about America that people still cling to is simply gone, long past us in all but facade. May the Lord Jesus have mercy on us. (BBC News 5/24)

‘Learned helplessness.’ #Murica is now a glorified death camp. Plus, Trump cronies installed in the Inspector General’s office found to have targeted certain SSDI recipients, the emergence of ‘Dark MAGA,’ Liz Cheney tells it like it is, more

COVID-19, shootings: Is mass death now tolerated in America? - ‘Learned helplessness’ is how one expert spoken to for this AP article describes the atmosphere in modern #Murica. Where, oftentimes, cowardice is mistaken for courage, mass stupidity is mistaken for independent thought, and pure callousness is mistaken for godliness. Excerpt - ‘After mass shootings killed and wounded people grocery shopping, going to church and simply living their lives last weekend, the nation marked a milestone of 1 million deaths from COVID-19. The number, once unthinkable, is now an irreversible reality in the United States — just like the persistent reality of gun violence that kills tens of thousands of people every year. Americans have always tolerated high rates of death and suffering — among certain segments of society. But the sheer numbers of deaths from preventable causes, and the apparent acceptance that no policy change is on the horizon, raises the question: Has mass death become accepted in America? “I think the evidence is unmistakable and quite clear. We will tolerate an enormous amount of carnage, suffering and death in the U.S., because we have over the past two years. We have over our history,” says Gregg Gonsalves, an epidemiologist and professor at Yale who, before that, was a leading member of the AIDS advocacy group ACT UP. “If I thought the AIDS epidemic was bad, the American response to COVID-19 has sort of ... it’s a form of the American grotesque, right?” Gonsalves says. “Really — a million people are dead? And you’re going to talk to me about your need to get back to normal, when for the most part most of us have been living pretty reasonable lives for the past six months?”’ (AP 5/21)

Trump crony installed in the Inspector General’s office directed employees to grossly abuse a program meant to investigate disability fraud, levying excessive fines over petty violations against more than 100 individuals - If the GOP cannot destroy Social Security by legislation or public consent, they will do so by stealth and incrementally. Remember this, anyone and everyone, when going to the polls in November. (Washington Post 5/20)

Michigan elections chief alleges Trump wished for her to be executed for treason for refusing to validate his claims of election fraud - There is no bottom, save for the remaining sane, rational, and humane people of America rising up and throwing all Fascists out of any and all positions of authority. #Murica needs ‘denazification’ - an incendiary term when used to describe Putin’s ‘special operation’ against innocent Ukrainians who did nothing to provoke Russia’s wrath; but a bit more accurate when describing millions of American nationalist populists who are displaying increasing levels of hostility toward the rest of society, to say nothing of recklessly engaging in scary, cult-like behavior. I am increasingly afraid this only ends with President Biden having to resort to drastic measures, and right now millions of populist Americans are determined to test him. (NBC News 5/19)
